Building Strong Nonprofits

A Brief Overview… Nonprofit Leadership Center of Tampa Bay, Inc. (formerly known as the Management Assistance Program, Inc.) was created in 1996 by a consortium of community leaders to provide management assistance resources to nonprofit organizations in order to enhance their operating efficiency and effectiveness in delivering community services. With Tampa Bay nonprofits contributing millions of dollars in community services to the local economy and way of life, Nonprofit Leadership Center of Tampa Bay is considered an essential investment in the health of these organizations which now number over 7,300 in the Tampa Bay area.

To paraphrase a statement made by a program participant... "using Nonprofit Leadership Center of Tampa Bay’s services is about becoming a part of a continuum of services, resources and relationships--one that provides an ongoing base of networking, mentoring, and sense of 'connectedness' for individuals working in the nonprofit arena."   As Tampa Bay's virtual center for nonprofits, Nonprofit Leadership Center of Tampa Bay continues to provide a compelling value proposition for funders (public, corporate and private foundations) seeking to assist the widest possible spectrum of local nonprofits toward continual improvement of professional practices and more effective service delivery.

Thanks to its visionary founders, Nonprofit Leadership Center of Tampa Bay was among the first management support organizations for nonprofits in Florida.  We are proud to report that hundreds of MSO's exist and continue to be formed in growing metropolitan areas across the U.S., wherever nonprofit organizations contribute to the quality of life, social and economic impact on community.   Since its inception, Nonprofit Leadership Center of Tampa Bay has been a member of the Alliance for Nonprofit Management (Washington, D.C.), the professional industry group for nonprofit capacity building in the U.S.   Nonprofit Leadership Center of Tampa Bay is also a member of Board Source and the Social Enterprise Alliance.  With offices in the West Shore District of Tampa, workshops and events are held in a variety of locations throughout Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties.  To keep participation costs low for area nonprofits while providing optimal meeting environments, we seek to hold events in donated corporate and community venues with state-of-the art meeting and conference amenities.  A number of corporate and public institutions have hosted our events to welcome and support the nonprofit community.
