Training Volunteer Managers through the Points of Light Curriculaby Susan Lawton, Director, Volunteer Services, United Way of Tampa Bay A manager of volunteers needs to be able to communicate the mission of an organization, understand the needs of clients and other staff people, create and implement strategies to serve the organization, use resources wisely and then articulate the impact of all that work. Finding a person with this entire skill set is challenging. The individual in this position needs experience in supervision, sales and marketing, strategic planning, program evaluation, training, resource development, human resources, risk management, diplomacy and a considerable amount of common sense. The Volunteer Management Certificate Program, brought to you by United Way of Tampa Bay and the Nonprofit Leadership Center of Tampa Bay, was created by the Points of Light Foundation to build the capacity of local volunteer administrators by providing accessible, affordable and high quality training. Our local presenters offer over 100 years of combined volunteer management experience. Participants also build relationships with their peers over this six session course and learn what other local resources are available. Whether participants are full-time or part-time managers who works with nonprofit or workplace volunteers, school or faith-based agencies, municipalities, new to the profession or seasoned veterans, this training maximizes their performance as volunteer managers. Our graduates continually rate this experience as highly valuable and time well spent. Get more information about the Volunteer Management Certificate Program. |
